Abstract

ICT is transforming the educational landscape in South Africa and there is an outcry for the use of ICT in the classroom. The study examined the role of ICT to enhance learner performance and motivation in the classroom. Teachers should be motivated to use ICT effectively to improve the quality of their teaching to improve educational outcomes. To ascertain the effect of ICT usage, research was conducted at ten secondary schools in Bloemfontein. A random sample of thirty secondary school teachers was drawn from ten schools. A mixed method approach was used to collect data. Questionnaires were administered to participants and were then followed by unstructured interviews. The results show that teachers are positive to use ICT because of the benefits thereof to advance learner performance and motivation. This article aims to show teachers the advantages when ICT is use in the classroom.
