Psychosocial Adjustment to Divorce: A Study on a Sample of Divorcees in Jordan

Abstract

This study aims at exploring the Psychosocial effects of divorce on the divorcees, and to examine the extent of their adjustment to divorce. The study population consisted of divorcees (men and women) in Jordan, the sample size was 400. A questionnaire was used for this study, and the Fischer Divorce Adjustment Scale (FDAS) was used with permission. Results showed that divorcees experience varying degrees of psychosocial effects, more into the negative trend. In addition, divorcees show varying degrees of adjustment to the various impact of divorce, again the negative sentiments predominated. The study concluded by discussing the results and submitting recommendation to the effect of the necessity of professional intervention and marital counseling programs, as well as conducting more in-depth studies that deal with fundamental issues in divorce causes, consequences and responses.
