Abstract

The study mainly aimed to bridge the gaps in the environment of music teaching in schools of Jordan, by studying the reality of music teaching in Jordanian schools from the perspective of teachers themselves. The study also revealed the challenges facing teachers within a music education environment in schools identified by the teachers themselves through a questionnaire survey addressed to music teachers in the public and private schools in Jordan (elementary, middle, and high school level). The researchers collected data and analyzed the results through analytical software program to get statistical data for percentages and averages, mean, and standard deviations. Results have been shown through the procedures of the study that there is a great disparity in the views of teachers and classified according to the study variables that have already been identified which are: Gender, educational qualification, specialization, and the workplace. The study showed that the highest areas which obtained the approval significantly were in the area of moral support for the teacher and the student, especially, under the statement (“I love my profession as a music teacher”) by the approval of (100%), came in the second place a large approval of item (“I enjoy teaching music to the students”) and the percentage of their approval was (97%), and an equal percentage under (“I pay attention to the talented students”). The areas that got significantly non-approval were the questions related to the methodology and the readiness of the teacher. Teachers who have shown approval in the non-use of of the school curriculum were (85%), followed by the percentage of non-approval of (68%) within the scope of availability, especially, with regard to (“Music workbook and materials are available at the school where I work”). After analyzing the results, the researchers came up with conclusions that responded to the survey questions. The researchers provided suggestions, which in turn will help future researchers to conduct research in a variety of fields that have interests in the development of music education in Jordan.
