Abstract

The study is an attempt to shed light on the common ground between printed fiction and audio-visual drama generating from it. The study focuses on crystalizing a clear idea about the nature of the relationship between the literary text and dramatic creativity. The study discusses one short story and four novels that became drama; the ‘Shoes’ story became a short film; the ‘Face of Time’ novel became a TV series; ‘Life in the Custody of Death’ novel became a radio play; the ‘Hamrawi’ novel became a radio series and the ‘marmalade Orange’ novel became a play with the same name. The study shows how the scenarist used the drama techniques successfully The study shows that the relationship between literature and drama, the cinema mainly, is old. It also clarifies that literature builds on the narrative words, dialogues, dialogic and descriptive sentences; while, drama builds on image and acting movements. There are common features link the two together. These are characters, events, place and time. The study hints at the relationship between novelist and scenarist.
