Perceptions of Violence among Kuwaiti Women

Abstract

This study examines the relationship between some psychological and sociocultural characteristics with the problem of violence against women in Kuwaiti society. A total of 344 Kuwaiti females from different cultural backgrounds has been selected from six governorates in Kuwait. Questionnaire was the major tool of this study. Some sociocultural and psychological information were included. Wife abuse scale and Women’s Withdrawal Scale are the major scales in this study. SPSS was used for data analysis. T-test, person correlation and multiple regression are the major statistical analysis in this study. Data show significant relationship between the degree of violence against wife and some psychological and sociocultural characteristics, significant relationship between degree of violence against wife with some socio-cultural variables, and significant differences between some sociocultural variables with and violence against women. Withdrawal symptoms and relationship with the husband family are predictable variables for women’s violence.
