Abstract

The present study aims at monitoring the demographic, social, economic and academic characteristics of the students on academic probation at Sultan Qaboos University. The data were collected from participants selected based on a non-probabilistic sampling. The study was conducted on university students more than two-thirds of whom are unmarried male bachelors studying at the Faculty of Engineering, the Faculty of Science and the Faculty of Economics and Political Science. The results of the study indicated that most of the students under study were living in private and shared houses outside the University, and those who live in campus are not satisfied with the quality of housing. Most of them came from households characterized by monthly incomes of medium and low, where a low percentage of them are economically active, i.e., currently working, and that their monthly income is not enough to meet their own expenses and living.
