Language as the Most Distinctive Feature of Humanmankind from Social Science’s Point of View
Abstract
The human mind is the distinctive character of humans. This article argues that this describes the apparent side of things and neglects the hidden most important distinctive trait of the humans. It is the source of the existence of the human mind itself. The author shows that language is prior to all distinctive features of the humankind, since it has set the ground for the emergence of the mind and its Cultural Symbols/CS ( thought, knowledge/science, religion, cultural values and norms, myths, laws …) which distinguish humans from the rest. It can be said that the human identity is squarely a linguistic one. It can be stated in a Descartian formula: I use the human language, therefore, I am human. The potential for human thought to last for long or forever can be realized only if embraced especially by written languages. Consequently, human language is the fundamental basis for the birth of the human mind, its CS, its thought and the human mastership on this planet.Downloads
