Abstract

This study discusses the religious and historical tradition in respect to Jabal Haroun (mount Aaron) nearby Petra, and the possibility of it being the mount on which Aaron died and buried. The study thoroughly discusses the name of mount Aaron in biblical and historical sources. The bible, the major source of the events related to the death of Aaron, was assessed as a historical source through the consideration of its sources, the phases of its documentation, and its limitations as a historical source. The second part of the study presents the different views regarding the true geographic locations of Kadesh and Mount Hor depending on the bible, historical studies, and archaeological studies.
