Abstract

This study aims at exposing to what extent Human rights principles are included and represented in English textbooks of Eng. 99, Eng 101, Eng 102 and National Education textbook taught for English major female students at Princess Alia University College, Jordan. In addition, it is the purpose of this paper to study to which extent the students do apply these principles of human rights. Two methods were used: analysis of content which is a descriptive analytical method to analyze the principles of Human Rights, and a questionnaire used to detect students' feedback in the issue. Five divisions were suggested; they include 28 aspects of human rights which correspond to the modern development of these principles according to international documents, announcements, and internal constitutions for different countries. These aspects are divided among the political, social, economic and cultural rights. This study shows that there is a difference in the degree of including these principles in the previously mentioned textbooks; however, there are no clear statically recognized differences (less than %,05) in the representation of human rights between English textbooks and National Education textbook. The questionnaire has revealed a variety of opinions related to human rights among students of English Department. The study has concluded with a number of suggestions and recommendations.
