Abstract

The topic “woman” is considered one of the most favored topics in Arabic poetry, old and new, especially by romantic poets like Ibrahim Naji. The topic of woman presents a rich content and conveys a deep insight into the poetic texts. This research aims at studying the woman image in the poetry of Ibrahim Naji. This is achieved by focusing on the romantic trend in the modern Arab poetry, taking into consideration that Naji is one of the pioneers and one of the best representatives of that era of the romance period. Naji has expressed his emotions employing symbolism away from sensuality. For, even though the woman was his source of torture and agony, she was nonetheless his source of inspiration and creativity. He draws her has an angelic being soaring the skies. This was manifested using holy emotions which nurtured his romanticism and set his implorations afire. He conveys his experience to the recipient’s mind in a most vivid manner.
