Abstract

This study discusses Arabian modes (Maqamat) in contemporary Arabian songs. This is done through two-stage analysis of a random sample of these songs broadcasted in common Arabian music space channels. The first stage analyzes each song separately, extracts its main features, and inserts them in schedules categorized by modes. The second phase is a statistical analysis tackles, in each time, modes and another feature of the songs. Then these results are presented in tables. The analysis is followed by discussing possible reasons led to obtained results, and concluding the overall image of the contemporary Arabian song.
