Abstract

This study aims to identify the role of Jordan TV in national education for a sample of students from German Jordanian University within the frame of Reliance on Mass Media theory. The Sample Survey Method is used to achieve this objective where the sample population consists of (210) respondents. They have been chosen randomly and irregularly, where the sample represents different study stages and both genders equally. Consequently, the survey is designed after displaying it to experts that turn it out to be consisted of three sections. The first section consists of personal information like faculty, specialization, sex, age, household's income. The second one, relevant to watching TV, consists of (16) questions; whereas the third part, which is relevant to national education, consists of (9) questions. The study concludes a set of results; most importantly, most of the study sample's populations have more than one TV, where people watch all TV channels in general and the Jordanian channel in particular. Sports' TV programs are ranked the first in terms of watching, then comes respectively athletic, news, social, political, religious, and cultural programs. Further, the internet, as mass media, is ranked first in process of strengthening national and political trends. The study has revealed the lack of youth programs in Jordan TV. "Sixty-minute" program is the most preferred TV program, where it is ranked the first among other political programs broadcasted on Jordan TV. "Views and Perceptions" program is ranked the second, followed by "Youth Parliament" program and finally/comes "The Third Standpoint" program. The study has shown that Jordan TVranking falls behind both Aljazeera and al-Arabiya TV stations and the BBC channel in following-up the checking of an internal event. Helping persons in need is ranked the first in preference of volunteer works' forms. It shows as well the lack of motivating role in Jordan TV for the purpose of influencing the audience in order to make him/her behave in a way that serves his country and community. Further, it shows that"the way of displaying the news and the lack of experience" are the main reasons behind making Jordan TV not regarded as the first information resource on what is going on around the world. The study also shows that the degree of confidence in Jordan TV is medium. The following resources are organized respectively in terms of importance in reinforcing the national and political trends: family, mass media, school and university, friends, national education course, and political parties.
