Abstract

This Research Attempts to analyze the concept of "the Individual" in the philosophy of the Danish thinker Soren Kierkegaard (1813-1855), who was the founder of the modern existentialist movement, and sought to find a new basis for unity of Individuality during a time when Western society was facing a crisis brought on by the industrial revolution and its impact on culture, religion and Sciences. This Research is composed of two parts : the first part is more descriptive, in which I tried to define the concept of the Individual with accordance to the theory of Individualism as it appears in modern philosophy and thought, The second part is analytical and focused on Kierkegaard's writings, trying to define his concept of the Individual with reference to his concept of the "crowed" which according to Kierkegaard is the negation to the individual and an anonymous entity that demolish the human identity.
