Abstract

This paper deals with the role of the postal system in the battles and conquests of war in the Mamluk era. The Mamluk state consisted of scattered rings connected by an integrated postal system founded by Sultan Zahir Baibars. This system was launched in an era of rising attacks by Mongols and Crusades on the border of the Mamluk state. This situation necessitates that news should be brought from areas of the conflict to Qal’at AlJabal (the citadel) in Cairo at full speed to mobilize the army according to the news arrived. Research proved the extent of the success of this postal system in the victory of the Mamluks in several battles against the Crusaders and the Mongols.
