Phonetic Phenomena in the Dialect of Busira: A descriptive and historical study

Abstract

This study aims to unveil the phonetic phenomena in the dialect of Busira town, Tafila-South of Jordan, and its regions: Gharandal, Umm Sarab, Ri'a and Rawath and to document and save them as they are used for a certain usage at a certain time. The researcher uses the descriptive and historical approaches through observation and documentation. The researcher tries to reach some interpretations for these phonetic phenomena and to link them, where possible, with their historical roots in the Standard Arabic and old Arabic dialects. These phenomena are represented in the assimilation phenomenon through: al-idgham, al-ibdal, al-imalah and tashil al-hamz. The study consists of an introduction, a definition of the term dialect, an introduction of Busira area; its people and geography, a discussion of the results, a conclusion and a list of bibliography.
