The Metaphore: A Study in it’s Origin and Development

Abstract

This research is a study of the origin and development of the subject of metaphor because of the great importance of this subject on our studies in criticism over decades of time. Metaphor with its different branches was the starting point of following stylistic studies which were based on this metaphoric formula of language in the numerous rhetoric studies. Based on this. The researcher decided to track a little bit of the development of metaphor in Arabic studies. Stops were made at different stages of this development to put the beginning of this rhetoric term in a framework related to different consecutive critical eras.
