Techniques of Cohesion in the Literary Discourse: A stylistic study of a poem by Laqeet Bin Ya’mor Al-Iyadi
Abstract
The present research handles a new perspective in stylistic study, by examining the interaction of literary analysis and the devices of textual cohesion within a frame of discourse analysis. For that purpose, the research makes use of certain key elements as they distinguish the textual cohesion, and represent the basis for discourse analysis – it explores how these elements and devices move around in the literary text, and the part they play in endowing the text with qualities like 'literariness' or 'poeticality', which may be the means to revealing the stylistics of the literary/poetic discourse. The research particularly focuses on three key terms: repletion, synonymy, and antonymy, as they feature in a poem by Laqeet bin Ya'mur al-Iyadi, by shedding light on the textual cohesion it represents, which in turn emanates from denotational and associational means of cohesion; and it points out the bonds among certain linguistic features or elements and the stylistic perspective, when they work as common devices.Downloads
