Abstract

This study aims at exploring an unknown pre-Islamic poet, who has seldom been mentioned by researchers in this era. He has rarely been referred to in literary and historic references compared to other pre-Islamic poets, who have become widely acclaimed, and have a clear literary presence. The authors of this study have found that the poet, Salmah Bin Al Khurshub Al Anmari has works that are dispersed in several heritage sources. Linguistic and grammatical evidence can be found occasionally; however, the evidence is not abundant but, rather, is scattered and – in a certain respect- repetitive. In addition, there are two poems in AlMufaddaliyyat and Munta AlTalab. We believe the most important aspect of this study is to compile the poet’s work into a single source, for ease of reference and as a beneficial guide. Our first concern is to explore the poet’s works and dissipate any misconceptions originally attached to them. The study will also examine the principal issues related to the poems in terms of content and technical aspects. As a prelude to this end, we will first review the poet’s life and familial background, relying on the scarce sources available in this regard, as there appears to have been little reference to the poet’s life, with the exception of his sister Fatima. We will also review the poet’s works in a temporal context, and shed light on the sources containing his works. Key Words: Salama Bin AlKhurshub, Poet, Investigation.
