The Jordanian Teenagers and the Arab Musical Satellite: A Study in the Framework of Usage and Gratification Approach
Abstract
The study aimed at investigating the usage of teenagers and their gratification of Arab musical satellite. To achieve the above mentioned aim, the researcher developed a questionnaire that consisted in its final form of (88) content – valid alternatives covering (11) questions in musical satellite usage. The questionnaire was applied to a randomly sample of male and female students from al- Ittihad secondary school. This study concluded the following results:
1- There were statistically significant differences in the motives (instrumental, ritualized) of musical satellite usage due to sex and academic specialization variables.
2- There were statistically significant differences in the gratification of orientation, para- orientation and para- social, due to sex and academic specialization variables; whereas no differences were found in the gratification of social usage related to the same variables.
3- There were statistically significant differences in general satisfaction about video clip songs, due to sex and academic specialization variables.
4- There were no statistically significant differences in teenagers' perception of musical satellite effects on moral and behavioral values due to sex variable; whereas there are statistically significant differences in teenagers perception of musical satellite effects on moral and behavioral values due to academic specialization variable.
