Social and Economic Causes of Divorce in Northern Jordan: A Field Study in Irbid Governorate
Abstract
The study aims to explore the main social and economic factors that lead to divorce in Northern Jordan.
The total population of the study is the cases of divorce living in Irbid Governorate. 170 cases out of 210 were interviewed.
The tool of study was a designed questionnaire to meet the aims of the study. The results of the study show that the major reasons for divorce were the following:
Family interference, ignorance of marital life, short period of engagement and women’s work. The results indicate that some of the factors do not affect divorce such as: early marriage, age variation, uncommittment to religious beliefs and income.
