Abstract

Terminology of Arabic script is based on a huge and varied number of words, names and terms, which cover in general, meanings and semantic concepts of writing and script. Their study is usually concerned in the historical, functional or aesthetic values and aspects.

Terminology in Arabic calligraphy is, in particular, based on the aesthetic fact of the formative structure of the scriptural letters and its representation in a varied number of words, names and terms connected to the designation and denomination of shapes and types of these letters.

The denomination is concepted by specific terms which express these different artistic styles of script and what is related to them, such as calligraphy and its varied styles, methods, equipments, manuscripts, functions, tools, calligraphers and all what is related to the art of Arabic script. These artistic terms, in the same way, compose the scientific and knowledge language of calligraphy.
