Abstract

This study addresses an important issue in the context of the relationships between Jordan and Oman, that is, Jordan's military role in assisting Oman to end the threat of the Dhofar revolution, which took place before almost a third of a century ago. The study also highlights the role of the Special Parachute Phalanx 91, which was sent to Oman in early 1975; and the nature of this force and the tasks it carried out. The study also addresses the phalanx's military contributions on the Omani land, such as its role in training Omani soldiers and reducing the risk of the rebels in Dhofar. This mission continued for about six months. On another level, Jordan also sent an engineering brigade to Oman, which contributed to the completion of several development projects, such as economic, social, and military projects. The brigade built military schools, paved roads in the mountains, established airports, and constructed houses for citizens, hospitals and water tanks and so on. Jordan's role was reflected in strengthening the relationships between the Governments of Jordan and Oman. Oman's political regime valued this step, which came from Jordan's National role to assist the Arab brothers when crises arise. This study was mainly based on the documents in the Jordanian military archive, deposited in the General Command of the Jordanian Armed Forces - Directorate of Hostilities. These military documents were significantly used in this study, in addition to other modern resources of personal interviews and newspapers.
