“Albuka’ A’la Zhrat il-Qamar”

Abstract

This study scrutinizes the text in view of its title. It provides a linguistic analysis that considers semantics and symbolism and what extent this technique affects the texture and synthesis of a work of literature. This collection investigates the topic clarified in the titles through communicative task in a form of subtitles that laminate the topic and lead it to specialty.

The title of a literary work is considered a semantic approach in semiotics, and primarily a linguistic hint from which the critic reader can identify the type of literary text. It can be ambiguous to the reader. The reader will discover that the title refers to another type of literature after he / she reads further. The title is sometimes metaphoric and therefore does clearly refer to the type of literature especially when the cover does not indicate this type. This is very true for the work of Fatima Hamad who used a metaphorical title for her short story collection '' Albukaa' άla zahrat –il- qamar''. From the title, the reader's first impression is that it is a collection of poems, but the cover says it is a collection of short stories.
