Abstract

The research aims to identify the Irish Treaty that was held in December 1921 in terms of its causes, processes and results. It also aims to demonstrate its importance as it had a great impact on the development of the Irish issue, determine the fate of the Irish people, and put an end to a long conflict between Ireland and Britain since the British occupation in 1171. The study concluded that the Irish Treaty and the approval of Irish leaders to ratify it, were not an option but rather an imposition after the determining the autonomous regions in Ireland, and the Irish position between the option of approval or entering into a war with unforeseeable consequences. Its signature divided Irish public opinion between supporters of the treaty and the partition project, and between opponents of it who saw the military struggle and resistance as the best option for achieving full independence in Ireland.
