Abstract

This study aims at shedding light on the contemporary Spanish Orientalism, as it distinguished from other European countries to have communicated first with Arabs and benefited from their civilization and culture, which made it of a special place in the field of Orientalism. The study includes a historical overview of the Spanish Orientalism and its development, for it is considered a means of rapprochement and bridging gaps of understanding between Spain and the Arab world. The study also touches upon the Spanish Orientalist, Pedro Martinez Montavez, and his works that distinguished him from other Spanish Orientalists in bringing about an evolution in the contemporary orientalists approach, as opposed to what was used in Spain before. He called for what was so-called culture convergence and integration, because it is the most important weapon to overcome catastrophic crises, and this study demonstrated that the orientalists approach of Montavez was absolutely objective and realistic without paying attention to any forces or effects.
