The degree of positive and negative effects of social media networks from the point of view of the German-Jordanian University students

Abstract

The study aims to identify the most attractive media topics on the social media and the respective degree of their positive and negative effects from the point of view of the German-Jordanian University students The survey descriptive approach was used. A questionnaire consists of (55) paragraphs was developed and implemented on purposive sample of (652) persons. The results showed that topics of linking up with friends, recreation and amusement are the most attractive topics with high degrees followed by the least attractive sexual topics with low degree, with differences of statistical significance (0.05) in favor of the first- and second-year students. The study showed also, that the degree of positive effects came in the middle while the highest degree was given to social media educates me political issues; the lowest came to : activation of connect to the classmates, with presence of differences of statistical significance in favor of the females. The total degree of the negative effects came also in the middle: four paragraphs were highly ranked, namely: curtailed my participation on the social occasions on the ground, incitement to hatred and prejudice and discrimination, diminished my interaction with my family members, improper interaction and broadening relations with the other gender in presence of differences of statistical significance in favor of the females. In the light of the study results, we come up with the recommendations.
