The Volumetric Hierarchy for the Cities of the Urban System in Al-Anbar Governorate (2007-2019)

Abstract

Throughout studying the volumetric hierarchy of Al-Anbar cities, a problem of imbalance in the urban centers system of the governorate has been identified by applying certain quantitative standards and measurements. Also, the results of the study show that many great changes have been taken place in the urban system of the cities of Al-Anbar governorate concerning its volumetric growth and organization. Some of it increased whereas the others decreased in the volumetric arrangement. It became clear throughout the analysis of the results of the study that there is a relative correspondence with the grade and volume according to Zipf 's rule on the urban system of Al-Anbar especially from the third city till the last one and the appearance of the dominant city. Also, by applying Jefferson’s law, it is evident that Al-Fallujah city dominates the other urban centers in population followed by Al-Ramadi then Al-Qaeem though the contrast in the volumetric hierarchy of 2007. In order to realize the balance in population distribution, the study concluded that the future orientation be to the target year 2029 and also the five-year plane of 2024.The study ended with some of the suggestions and recommendations to achieve the balanced development to the all administrative unities of the governorate.
