Abstract

Islamic East saw the rise of many Islamic cities that contributed greatly to the intellectual activity of the Islamic world. The city of Amal Jijon is major among them as it ranked high among cultural and intellectual circles due to its scholars and its intellectual activity. This city was variously named as Amoi, Amal Al-Shat, and Amal Al-Mafaza. It was characterized by its multi-ethnic population which includes Persians, Turks, and Arabs. The intellectual activity flourished in this city due to the spread of Islam and Arabic language, the role of rulers and prices in encouraging the intellectual activity and taking care of scholars, and the scientific travels. This paper made clear the distinction between the scholars of Amal Jijon and those of Amal Tabaristan.
