The Ideological Dimension in Season of the Mermaids and Sons of the Wind and its Impact on the Artistic Dimension of the Narrative
Abstract
This paper examines the ideological dimension of two Jordanian novels; The Season of the Mermaids by Jamal Naji and Sons of the Wind by Laila Al-Atrash. The two authors employ multiple voices to represent ideological shifts, in addition to other techniques such as internal monologue, dialogue, recall, etc. The paper investigates the ideological dimension of various characters and its impact on the structure of the narrative, and compares between the techniques employed by each other. The paper concludes that the technique of multiple voices plays a key role in uncovering characters’ ideologies.
