Abstract

Technology has proved to possess tremendous ability to reshape societies through building knowledge and trends of the society members. The aim of this study is to reveal the amount of e-economy knowledge and trends the Emirati youth possess based on this change. Accordingly, the study attempted to test the theoretical hypotheses presented by the Participatory Economics Theory. The study also defined the concepts of e-economy, trends, and the trend of e-economy. As a methodology, the study relied on the Descriptive Relational Approach. For the data collection, the study adopted two tools: semi-structural questionnaire, and the measure of trends. A sample size of 200 students, both males and females, from the University of Sharjah is studied. The study revealed that e-economy knowledge of more than half of the sample can be described as weak. The study also revealed that there are no differences in two variables: specialization and the amount of knowledge in the aspects of e-economy. However, the study showed a culture where the knowledge and trend of e-economy is higher in males than in females. Also, a larger percentage of respondents indicated that the future of the e-commerce is ambiguous and unspecified, while a percentage of 6% more respondents indicated that the horizons of e-commerce will expand in the future, and that the future will carry more confidence for individuals in the industry. The study indicated that there is a strong trend among respondents to acquire more e-economy knowledge that would achieve more optimal use of the Internet.
