Differences in the Level of Evolution of the Motive of Affiliation in a Sample of Students of the University of Jordan According to Some Demographic Variables

Abstract

The current study aimed to identify the level of evolution of the motive of affiliation (motive to form social relations with others and motive to refrain forming social relations with others) and to find differences between them in a sample from students of the University of Jordan, reached (250) students enrolled for the second semester of the academic year 2018-2019, according to the variables of gender, college, GPA, educational level. To achieve this, the scale of the level of evolution of these two motives has been applied. After the data collection and statistical analysis, the following results were obtained:The existence of a tendency towards the dominance of the intermediate level of the evolution of motives to form and to refrain forming social relations among students of the University of Jordan, and the existence of statistically significant differences in the levels of evolution of the motives to form and refrain forming social relations according to the variables of gender, college, and GPA of the students of University of Jordan. Accordingly, it is recommended that the motivation for affiliation be given great attention in the academic community, through the provision of awareness and educational lectures, and holding workshops, and training courses related to improving the quality of the belonging motive dimensions.
