Why Disabled People Are Reluctant To Participate In Sports Activities

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to identify the reasons for the reluctance of persons with disabilities to participate in sports activities. In order to achieve this the researcher implemented the descriptive approach by distributing a questionnaire to 78 persons with disabilities to identify the reasons obstruct their participation in sports activities. The study concluded that there are a number of reasons that prevent these persons from practicing physical activities such as low media attention, the high cost of transportation and the purchase of sports supplies, the lack of clubs and their distance from their place of residence, the lack of adequate space and equipment in clubs, Difficulty of accessibility to public spaces and lack of necessary resources at all levels , in addition to dealing with trainers who lack of experience and specialization. The researcher concluded with a set of recommendations that may contribute to alleviating the problem such as raising the awareness of individuals in the society about the rights and interests of disabled people increasing the number of clubs for people with disabilities and distributing them in proportion to their demographic distribution engage Sports clubs for the healthy people with the integration of the disabled as possible and the preparation of specialized trainers to deal with people with disabilities.
