Abstract

The aim of the research is to evaluate the quality of raw water of the Euphrates River and the efficiency of treatment in (54) drinking water projects in the Middle Euphrates governorates of Iraq for the year 2018, The per capita average of personal and domestic use of processed water for the population served for the governorates of the Middle Euphrates (351 liters / day / person) , Which is higher than the global standard for the average per capita drinking water, The percentage of water losses within the water transport network reached( 26.6%), which constitutes( 13.85% ) of the total water supplied to the population. The raw and drinking water in all governorates of the Middle Euphrates registered a value higher than the permissible limits of Iraqi and international use of the indicators (calcium, sulphate except Babil province according to Iraqi determinants only, And the turbidity index except for Karbala and Babil governorates for drinking water only) , While the remaining indicators recorded value within the limits of the environmental parameters (basal, potassium, acid function, total dissolved solids), As well as for indicators (sodium, calcium, magnesium, chlorides) except in Muthanna province when compared with Iraqi determinants, All sodium absorption ratio values are in the category of excellent water for irrigation purposes. And that the percentage of the efficiency of the reduction in the treatment units for drinking water projects in the Middle Euphrates governorates recorded a positive value for the indicators (basal, turbidity, acidic function, Escherichia coli only) , The efficiency of the reduction of the remaining indicators fluctuated and a negative reduction rate (0%) was recorded in some governorates, The treatment plant units in these projects do not show the efficiency to remove the pollutants properly.
