Abstract

Les Fourberies de Scapin has been offered to third-year French students in order to read it critically. However, the students are on the first threshold in the exercise of literary analysis. Those students experienced difficulties due to their rough knowledge in critical analysis. Moreover, they showed a form of disapproval to certain textual topics. For example, they expressed their extreme refusal to the representation of the fathers in the play. After establishing the contextual elements pertaining to the understanding of students’ nature, the researcher will shed light on the problem of students’ acceptance of Molière’s play. In fact, they accepted it after having had uneasy experiences. What contributedto making the students accept the play lastly is that it includes social and cultural elements very close to the ones experienced by the students in the Jordanian society. This gives the students a high stimulation to analyze the play critically based on their own religious, cultural and social beliefs.
