SOCIAL PROBLEMS RESULTING FROM CHRONIC DISEASES (KIDNEY FAILURE AND CANCER) : A SURVEY STUDY ON THE PATIENTS AT AL- BASHEAR HOSPITAL AND JORDAN HOSPITAL

Abstract

The study aimed to identify the social problems experienced by the patient as a result of his/her chronic disease (e.g., kidney failure and cancer) using the social survey method, in each of the AL- Basher Hospital and Jordan Hospital. The study participants were patients with renal failure (114) and cancer patients (83), and the total number of patients were (197). The most prominent results of the study indicated that: (a) the presence of statistically significant differences in the respondents responses due to the type of disease (kidney failure, cancer) were these differences attributable to cancer patients; (b) the existence of differences in the respondents responses due of their kind and were usually returning female patients, for social situation has been married are most suffering from social problems compared to other social situations; (c) the existence of differences belong to the nationality were these differences attributable to patients citizenship owners of non-Jordanian; (d) the existence of the impact of the disease on building a family; and (e) the importance of psychological and social support for the patient, and the role of the social worker in dealing with patients and their families, and the results were in favor of the private sector. Recommendations and practical implications are discussed in the study as well.
