Title of study : Micro Projects and Confronting Unemployment and Poverty Among Youths in Jordan : A Field Study

Abstract

The main goal of this study is to investigate and analyze Jordanian youths who have established income – generating small projects ( micro in nature ) in Amman area . Sample consisted of 300 youths from greater Amman area- all owners of micro projects .The type and nature of the projects , and their role in creating job , and good monthly income that protects them from poverty . Sample survey methodology was used , and data were collected by means of a structured questionnaire prepared by the researchers . The sample consists of 300 male and female youths who established income generating micro projects in different locations of Amman area , and who are currently operating these projects. Findings show that 45.4% of respondents were unemployed before starting their own micro projects for one or more years . The main reason for their unemployment was lack of job opportunities ,Findings also show that one third of projects studied employ one person besides owner , and 15.3% of projects employ two persons , some of them are Arab workers . With regard to confronting poverty among youths , owners of projects studied , findings show that 26% of respondents earn monthly incomes ranging from 500-899 JDs. 22% of respondents earn monthly incomes exceed 900 JDs . Monthly incomes they find sufficient for their family expenditure, and for covering running costs of projects. Findings also show that 27% of respondents manage to save monthly an amount of money either at home or in banks. Keywords : Micro projects , Small projects, Youths , Unemployment, and Poverty .
