Abstract

The study sets its search light on depicting the effect of constructing Al-Hassan industrial city on land use in the new municipality of Ramtha using Geographic Information System and remote sensing from 1990-2016. The study also investigated whether there have been changes to the patterns of main land use surrounding Al-Hassan industrial city within a buffer zone of 6 km2. The study employed the analytical method-relying on using the supervised classifications in analyzing land use change using the Landsat satellite images and applying Anderson system, level one for land use classification. Based upon above mentioned, three main area classes have been categorized in the area under study, these are the urban area, agricultural area, and Bare land. The study found a significant change that has been depicted in land use pattern in the study under investigation. The urban area increased by 27 km2 while the agricultural area decreased by 15 km2 and the Bare land decreased by 12 km2. In addition, the study highlights the use of modern technologies in studies related to land use, their illustrated ability and accuracy in the identification of land use patterns, and the easy calculation of the area.
